Generation Z and Millennials have distinct characteristics and values, despite both growing up during rapid technological advancement. Generation Z, individuals born from the mid-1990s to the early 2010s, has been surrounded by the internet and social media since a young age. This generation is highly familiar with technological innovations and tends to be more open to social, environmental, and diversity issues compared to previous generations.

On the other hand, the Millennial generation, also known as Generation Y, includes those born from the early 1980s to the mid-1990s. They experienced a significant technological transformation that included the rise of the internet and social media. Millennials are known for seeking a balance between their personal and professional lives, placing a high value on experiences, and emphasizing the importance of meaningful work.

While both generations play crucial roles in modern society, they also face various stereotypes that are not always accurate.

Exploring the Stigma and Perception of Generation Z
Generation Z often faces negative stereotypes regarding their use of technology and dependence on social media. They are frequently perceived as easily bored, impatient, and lacking in direct interpersonal interaction. However, this view does not accurately reflect the reality for many Gen Z individuals. Many members of this generation are deeply concerned about social issues and actively participate in various environmental initiatives. They tackle challenges in unique ways, and many demonstrate a high level of awareness and engagement with matters that will shape the future.

Key Differences between Millennials and Gen Z
Factors that differentiate Millennials from Gen Z include support, resilience, social awareness, attitudes toward authority, and technology usage.

Millennials faced significant economic challenges while growing up, such as difficulties in finding jobs and purchasing homes, which led to increased dependence on family support. In contrast, Gen Z, raised during a period of economic and political uncertainty, tends to be more resilient and adaptable to change.

Gen Z is known for being highly concerned about social and environmental issues due to easy access to information and the significant influence of social media, which makes them more critical of these matters.

3. Approach to Authority and Independence

Gen Z generally holds a more critical perspective on authority and is more independent in decision-making. Many members of this generation opt to take significant steps in life earlier than Millennials do.

4. Technology and Education

Generation Z grew up in a world saturated with advanced technology, which has helped them adapt quickly and find solutions on their own. In contrast, Millennials are still navigating a technological transition and often find it more challenging to use digital devices compared to Gen Z.

5. Approach to Overcoming Challenges

Generation Z and Millennials face several unique challenges and opportunities in today's digital era. Increasing economic pressures, political and environmental uncertainty, and the mental burden of high expectations are their main challenges. However, they also have a great opportunity to bring about change by utilizing technological expertise, creativity, and a passion for making a positive impact.

As individuals, this generation needs to continue to learn and adapt to rapid change. They also face the challenge of maintaining a healthy balance between their personal and professional lives. At the global level, they play a vital role in driving social change, championing issues such as gender equality and the environment, and building strong cross-cultural relationships.

Each generation has its strengths and challenges, and it is important for society not to generalize or simplify their characteristics. We can create a more inclusive and adaptive society by respecting each other’s differences, communicating openly, and seeing the potential to learn from each other. While different, Generation Z and Millennials have significant contributions to make that can support future social, economic, and environmental development.
