Tatsuo Horiuchi, an 80-year-old Japanese man, is known all around the world for his extraordinary drawing skills. However, he does not use pencils, pens, or paint to make his art. But using Microsoft Excel. Cool!
20 years ago, before retiring, he thought of looking for a new challenge in his life. He then chose to painting. However, Horiuchi did not want to spend money to buy art supplies. He then found an idea to draw using his PC. Unfortunately, he also does not have software for digital drawing. Finally, Horiuchi opted for Microsoft Excel.

Tatsuo Horiuchi has been making paintings using Microsoft Excel for around two decades. He started after retiring from his job in 2000. At that time, Horiuchi began drawing landscapes of Japan on his computer. "I did not expect it (my painting) to improve immediately, so I made a 10-year plan," Horiuchi told AFP.
"For the first 3 years, I concentrated on 'drawing' and drew all the things that could be seen, such as vegetables such as carrots and Japanese radish, and wild grass, in Excel. For the next 3 years, I practiced mixing motifs one by one to make a painting."

Six years after starting his Excel art journey, Horiuchi registered to an Excel Authoshape Art Contest and successfully won the grand prize. That's when he started to get a lot of attention from people for his skills.
Since then, he has become a 'legend' and some of his art work has even been acquired by the local Gunma Museum of Art. This Japanese artist really prefers Excel to Microsoft Paint because it offers more flexibility, has more functions, and is easier to use.
