Currently, there are quite a lot of cases of diabetes in children in the world, especially type 2 diabetes. This is increasingly becoming a global concern, including in our own country. Genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors are important in developing this disease. One key factor that is often overlooked is parents' habits, which also affect their children. Here are some habits that can trigger the risk of diabetes in children.

1. Unhealthy Eating Habits
Not a few parents often provide foods high in sugar, saturated fat, and simple carbohydrates which are generally found in fast food or junk food, sweet drinks, and processed snacks. These foods can increase the risk of diabetes in children. This habit often makes children accustomed to sweet tastes and unhealthy foods from an early age.

If parents do not prioritize the consumption of fruits and vegetables, children tend not to get the essential nutrients needed for growth and health. Lack of fiber from vegetables and fruits can affect blood sugar control.

2. Lack of Physical Activity
Parents who do not involve their children in physical activity or sports, such as walking, cycling, or playing outside, can reduce their children's opportunity to burn calories and maintain a healthy weight. Children who grow up in an environment where physical activity is not encouraged or discouraged are at higher risk of obesity, which is a major risk factor for diabetes. If parents spend more time in front of screens than exercising, children are more likely to follow what their parents do.

3. Being a Bad Example
If parents set a bad example such as unhealthy eating patterns, often snacking on unhealthy foods or overeating, children are more likely to imitate this behavior. Children learn from the examples set by their parents. Parents who do not pay attention to their health and do not discuss the importance of a healthy lifestyle with their children can create a culture at home that ignores health.

4. Not Having Routine Health Checks
Children should have their health checked regularly by a pediatrician for health checks. This is done to prevent parents from not realizing the early symptoms of diabetes which can result in a late diagnosis. Early detection is very important for managing and preventing diabetes. Almost every hospital provides a pediatrician who certainly understands what is good for the child to consume.

By improving diet, encouraging physical activity, and creating an environment that supports mental health, parents can help their children develop healthier habits and reduce the risk of diabetes in the future. Come on, expanding knowledge about the importance of a healthy lifestyle is also the key to forming a healthier generation!
