Marriage certification for couples to get married in 2020.

Do you have any plan to marry your loved ones in near future or may be in 2020? Do you know if Minister of Human Development and Culture (PMK) proposes that every couple who will get married in 2020 should have certificate of marriage?

Muhadjir Effendy as coordinator of Minister for Human Development and Culture (PMK) proposed every bride and groom-to-be take part in premarital debriefing which organized by the state through each religious institutions in Indonesia.

Muslim for example, there are number of KUA (Office of Religious Affair) require couples to attend meeting first before get married. Likewise in Catholic, couples must follow guidance before register marriage in the church.

That premarital debriefing process used as consideration whether couples are eligible for marriage certification or not. In this case, KUA officers act as counsellors as well as premarital education facilitators to ensure couples have sufficiently basic knowledge if they want to get married.

Muhadjir said this marriage certification has existed for a long time but the implementation was not optimal. To complete the process, the implementation of marriage certification will involve several related ministries such as Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection and Ministry of Health to provide basic knowledge that couples need such as economy, health (reproduction), and stunting prevention.

Marriage certification becomes a mandatory for couples who get married in 2020 regardless of any religion. It will take three months with no charge (free). What is your opinion about this marriage certification?
