In Alzheimer's sufferers, a dangerous protein compound, amyloid beta, has been found, which can be reduced by reading or writing. Reading can stimulate brain cells to concentrate on the details or stories presented in a reading.

As we get older, the brain's ability to remember often decreases. However, by reading regularly from an early age, the brain is stimulated to remember new things, while strengthening existing memories.
