Instagram and TikTok are the most popular social media today. However, it is indisputable that social media can also have negative effects on its users. According to a survey conducted by the University of Pittsburgh in 2016, approximately 1,500 young people in the UK experienced adverse health effects from using social media.

Even so, there are still proper ways to use social media more safely and healthily. As reported by the Huffington Post, here are the ways.

1. Ask Yourself Why You Use Instagram
According to a psychology professor at the University of Michigan, in order to play Instagram, and other social media healthily, analyze exactly why you are using the social media provider.
 
2. Upload, Like, Comment, & Share More Often
Most social media users or social media, more often see shared content than actively respond or upload their content. According to an assistant professor of psychology and lead author of the study from Maastricht University, the Netherlands, commenting or uploading photos is better than just looking at other people's photos.

3. Follow and Post Positive Content
You might be able to follow accounts that can make you feel better. For example, accounts that focus on hobbies, such as traveling or culinary. Determine positive preferences and view or interact with positive content for you. Let's move on to the next point!
 
4. Stop Following Disturbing Accounts
It is important to evaluate yourself, which accounts can make you happy, and which ones don't. For example, some people may be happy to follow accounts that focus on home design. However, for some people, these accounts make them jealous because their homes are not as good. Remember! that using social media, you must be wise in using it. Avoid feelings that make you anxious or uncomfortable. Use it as your preference in viewing the latest sociality.
 
 
5. Remember That What Others Post Is Not Necessarily Their Real Life
You may often see models or people whose appearance you already know and it has been edited. For example, you see your friends who seem to have a beautiful life on social media, you already know them very well in real life, so, you don't need to be jealous thinking about the fact that they have a very luxurious, glamorous life, etc. that they show off on social media. Because, what is uploaded on social media, is not necessarily the same in real life.
